The MHSB CO. is now entering it’s 9th season. Each year, students from ages 12 and older are invited to audition for the dance form of their choice- Ballet, Jazz or Hip Hop. Dancers are welcome to audition for all three if they choose. Those who are chosen to participate meet for eight Saturdays to learn challenging and creative choreography from a guest dance teacher. Students are required to be fully committed to their company and are encouraged to attend every rehearsal. All MHSB company members must re-audition each year.
The dancers are provided with extra performing opportunities in addition to their year end recitals. In the past, the companies have performed at such events as The Kiwanis Dance Festival, Sur La Pointe Dance Festival, The Dance Connection, the Pegasus Benefit Show and demonstrations for LuLu Lemon Athleticwear. As well, our company members are invited to attend performances and dress rehearsals of professional dance companies such as The National Ballet of Canada and The Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Each year the company dancers are given a gift from the school such as a Company hoodie, sweatpants or this year – the popular MHSB kneesocks. The Company encourages comraderie and team spirit among the dancers and becomes a special addition to their regular dance classes.
The MHSB Companies are divided into Junior and Senior. This is based on age, but also based on technique and experience as well as the caliber of the other auditioning dancers. Sometimes it is a tricky leap to go from Junior to Senior Company and as already mentioned, having previously been in an MHSB CO. does not guarantee acceptance the following year.
We hope that many students come out for the auditions. This in itself is a wonderful experience and gives the students a chance to feel the energy, nervousness and excitement of an audition.

In order to participate in the audition you must meet the following criteria:

must be 12 years of age before December 31st, 2009 |
|
must have a minimum of 3 years training in the dance form for which you are auditioning |
|
must be enrolled at MHSB for the ENTIRE 2009-2010 season in the dance form for which you are auditioning |
You must contact the studio and have your name put on the audition list before Wednesday September 9th, 2009. There will be an audition fee of $5.00 per dance form that your child is auditioning for. You need only attend one audition date. Students will be notified of the results of the audition by telephone before Wednesday September 16th, 2009.
There is no pre-determined size for each Company group. Group sizes will depend on the caliber of dancers and the number of students who audition.
If a student and his/her parent(s) agree to accept a position in a Company, there will be an additional fee of $225.00 per session, with no studio discounts applicable on this amount. MHSB Company fees cover all classes, rehearsals, and costumes. Travel expenses may be extra.
In order to participate in their MHSB Company piece, Company members must complete their corresponding dance form (example: a student in the MHSB Junior Jazz Company may only perform in this piece, if he/she is enrolled in a jazz class at MHSB, and completes the full dance season with that particular class).
Both Companies will rehearse on Saturdays from 2:45 to 4:15pm. There will be a total of eight weeks of rehearsals per session with three additional rehearsals at the end of the dance season to prepare for the year end shows. Attendance is very important, and those members who miss three or more classes/rehearsals may be asked to leave the group.
