MHSB Company Logo

The MHSB CO. is now entering it’s 16th season. Each year, students from ages 12 and older are invited to audition for the dance form of their choice- Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop or Contemporary. Dancers are welcome to audition for all four if they choose. Those who are chosen to participate meet for seven Sundays to learn challenging and creative choreography from a guest dance teacher. Students are required to be fully committed to their company and are encouraged to attend every rehearsal. All MHSB company members must re-audition each year.

Company dancers are provided with extra performing opportunities in addition to their year end recitals. In the past, the companies have performed at such events as The Kiwanis Dance Festival, Sur La Pointe Dance Festival, The Dance Connection, the Pegasus Benefit Show, and demonstrations for LuLu Lemon Athleticwear. As well, our company members are invited to attend performances and dress rehearsals of professional dance companies such as The National Ballet of Canada and The Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Each year the company dancers are given a gift from the school such as a Company hoodie, sweatpants or MHSB kneesocks. The Company encourages comraderie and team spirit among the dancers and becomes a special addition to their regular dance classes.

The MHSB Companies are divided into Junior and Senior. This is based on age, but also based on technique and experience as well as the caliber of the other auditioning dancers. Sometimes it is a tricky leap to go from Junior to Senior Company and as already mentioned, having previously been in an MHSB CO. does not guarantee acceptance the following year.

Martha Hicks is in the works of planning a wonderful year and is currently scheduling many new performance oppertunities for the Company. In addition, Martha is hoping to schedule a least one Company trip that will expose the dancers to new environments and training styles.  She has already recruited some fantastic Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, and Contemporary choreographers for the annual sessions, which dancers will have an opportunity to meet during the audition process.

In other exciting news, we will be opening up the Company auditions to the public. Dancers from all studios and dance styles are invited to come out to all auditions.

We hope that many dancers come out for the 2016-2017 auditions. This in itself is a wonderful experience and gives the students a chance to feel the energy, nervousness and excitement of an audition. MHSB company audtions dates and times will be posted late July 2016 and advance registration is required. Audition fee is $10 per dance form.
